5 Reasons to visit the Kruger in winter
Northern Phalaborwa, also referred to as the town of two summers, is wonderfully warm in Winter with its subtropical climate. The drier season (from May to September) is one of the best times to visit the Northern Kruger; with temperate pleasant days, cooler evenings, ample game sightings, little rainfall and clear starry nights, it’s ideal for that mid-year vacation or celebratory break!
Why visit the Northern Kruger in Winter?
Ambient temperatures ☀️
Warm sunny days averaging 26 degrees, with temperatures seldomly exceeding 32 degrees or dropping lower than 19 degrees. Perfect for a swim in the pool after a game drive! Nights are cooler with temperatures averaging 11 degrees and ever so often dropping down to a chilly 7 degrees; ideal for socializing around a fire in our Boma.
Increased wildlife sightings ????
As the drier months approach, water levels start to decrease and vegetation starts to thin out, resulting in better visibility and more animal gatherings and sightings, particularly around water holes. There’s never a better time to get the camera out for some picturesque shots of the wildlife!
Fewer rains ????
Leave your umbrellas at home because there is little to no rain throughout the season. The cloud cover and wind speed are also at a minimum; providing clear blue skies during the day and awe-inspiring starry nights, perfect for a romantic dinner.
Less pestering insects ????
Leave the bug spray at home! With the temperatures being much lower than they are in the summer months, you won’t be disturbed by the irritating buzzing of mosquitoes, flies and other annoying insects.
Spectacular dawn and dusk experiences ????
The dropping subtropical temperatures lead to warm, rusty, golden colored painted skies which make for breathtaking views and Instagram worthy sunrises and sunsets.
