Bushveld Terrace on Kruger is owned and run by the Turner family.

The concept of Bushveld Terrace is the brain child of John Turner’s vision, while the daily operational aspects are left to his son Dave and daughter-in-law, Debbie. 

John, a successful businessman originally from Johannesburg with a passion for the Kruger Park and counter poaching in particular, has been an active member of the South African National Parks Honorary Rangers for 35 years and the chairperson of the Ranger Support Services Unit for the past 20 years. 

John spotted the 2.6ha property on which Bushveld Terrace stands today on one of his many trips to the Kruger Park.

The property, which at the time featured a plant nursery and dilapidated house, excited John because it just about touched the Kruger. Furthermore, Phalaborwa is the only town in South Africa that borders directly with the Kruger and so he felt the attraction of luxury accommodation coupled with quality cuisine would appeal to discerning visitors to the Kruger Park.

Over the next decade, John quietly cultivated the idea of creating a lifestyle centre which later evolved into 4-Star accommodation and an a la carte restaurant. With a business plan in place John approached his son Dave and daughter-in-law Debbie, both with some experience in hospitality having worked as a field guide and reservationist in the private lodge industry respectively, to create a business partnership and so Bushveld Terrace was born.

The On Kruger element to the name Bushveld Terrace is because of our fantastic location right next door to Kruger.

Our beautiful hotel and restaurant complex was built from the designs of award winning architect Robin MacIntosh. The dilapidated house was transformed into The Homestead, an elegant and comfortable stand-alone home in the bush that offers more privacy, independence & personalized service.

Dave and Debbie are actively involved in the day-to-day management of the hotel and restaurant with their focus being on exceptional customer experience and staff wellness.

Dave oversees the financial and HR aspects of the business whilst Debbie is involved with guests, training, product development and marketing. Dave being reserved and Debbie outgoing make a complimentary duo consciously leading their team with kindness and respect.
