Cruising through Kruger – things to do when you stay with us

If you’re looking for your family’s new holiday destination in the Kruger, we’d like to suggest you give Phalaborwa, in the central Kruger, a whirl! Our little piece of paradise is full of hidden treasures and fun things to do with the family that can all be found nearby the hotel.

Situated just 200m from the Phalaborwa Gate of the Kruger National Park, it is easy to fill your days with things to do while making Bushveld Terrace Hotel your central base while you explore the Kruger.

Self-drives through the Kruger

Self-drives in the Kruger should be a rite-of-passage and being situated literally a stone’s throw away from the Phalaborwa Gate of the Kruger makes us the ideal self-drive destination.

Explore the park in your own vehicle, at your own pace with your packed lunch, take along your Kruger map book, your binoculars and savour in the freedom of the bush!

The key to enjoying a self-drive is to understand that time operates differently in the animal kingdom, so plan your day according to the rhythm of the bush – in a 24-hour period there are four main activity times, namely, early morning, daytime, late afternoon and night-time. Much of the “action” happens either early in the morning or late in the afternoon, so plan your trips around these times and then head back to the hotel to rest when the wildlife rests. Join us for lunch at Bushveld Terrace Restaurant, before lounging by the pool or taking a luxurious siesta before heading out for another late afternoon game drive. It really doesn’t get better than this!

Guided game drives through the Kruger

There’s no beating the freedom of driving oneself around the Kruger. However, to deepen the experience of the bush, take advantage of a guided game drive.

We offer morning, full-day or afternoon-guided drives in collaboration with Nandzana Safaris leaving from the hotel in an open game vehicle. Your knowledgeable guides will interpret the bush, provide you with detailed explanations and ensure you have great sightings of the Kruger Park’s wildlife, birdlife and plant life.

A night drive in the Kruger is a truly unique experience. The Kruger Park offer these drives exclusively after the camp and entrance gates have closed, and we are happy to arrange these for you.

Sit back and immerse yourself in the best the Kruger has to offer as you traverse the central Kruger in a guided game drive.

Olifants River Boat Cruise

Situated just 17km from Phalaborwa, experience game viewing in a completely new and exciting way as you cruise the waters on a ‘Kambaku’ houseboat on the mighty Olifants River.

They offer a 3-hour cruise of close encounters with crocodile, hippo, buffalo, elephant, waterbuck and the many of inhabitants of the Kruger. The cruise is a treat for bird lovers and photographers too.

Experience the Kruger on foot

For an intimate bush experience, the Kruger Park offers the extraordinary thrill of exploring the bushveld on foot. Try a morning or afternoon bush walk in the Kruger with experienced Kruger guides who will interpret the more intricate details of nature. Kruger bush walks can be arranged for you by us too.

So many things to do and so little time! Bushveld Terrace Hotel on Kruger would be delighted to make your bushveld dreams come to life.
