Christmas in the Kruger

Christmas in the Kruger

Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a ‘twitcher’, a photographer or simply a nature-loving family, there is really no better place to be this December than our beloved Kruger National Park!

Being just a stone’s throw away from the Phalaborwa Gate of the Kruger (literally just 200m away!) our hotel is the ideal location to make as your home base while you explore the magic and the incredible wonders of central and northern Kruger.

Why summer in the Kruger?

Many would argue that the heat in our part of the world chases them away, but nothing beats the glorious early mornings, and late afternoons, of summertime. There is something truly magical about getting up early in summer and hitting the quiet roads of Kruger on a self-drive or sitting quietly at a watering-hole in the late afternoon, watching the animals appearing after a hot day, to take a long drink.

And during the heat of day, our glorious pool, and airconditioned rooms, are here to cool you down for that ultimate relaxed summer-holiday feeling!

The summer younglings!

Many animals are born in the early summer months, providing endless opportunities for viewing special moments between adults and their offspring.

Impala lambs are born around November/December, typically after the first decent rains of the season, giving many opportunities for watching these energetic lambs happily dart around the bushveld.

Stargazing!

There are few places in the world where the nights are as endless and as clear as in the Kruger. Even the mighty Kruger is a world away, as you admire the enormity of the African skies. The open areas in the park nearby Phalaborwa provide a perfect backdrop for sundowners and snacks before navigating the constellations such as the Southern Cross, Orion and Scorpio with stops at Alpha Centauri, Canopus, Sirius and Antares. The journey is just not complete without a brief visit to the planets.

Photography opportunities

With the rains of the summer months, the bushveld is transformed into a beautiful, thriving green landscape which makes for the most brilliant photo opportunities. The sunrises and sunsets in our part of the world are famous for the myriads of colours that streak across our clear skies every morning and evening, creating dramatic backdrops and breath-taking sets for photos. An Instagram-er’s dream!

Birding

Bird watching is at a prime as summer migrants flock back, and many summer birds can be seen in spectacular breeding plumage, making the Kruger a birders paradise! Read owner and manager, Dave Turner’s, Dave on Kruger blog here, about what species are seen in and around the hotel as summer comes to the Kruger.

Consider a Kruger getaway this festive season and bask in all that our part of Kruger has to offer!
