HOW TO GET TO BUSHVELD TERRACE: FLIGHTS, TRANSFERS, AND DRIVING TIPS

The Kruger National Park is one of the world’s most famous safari destinations, attracting international travellers eager to witness Africa’s incredible wildlife.

Bushveld Terrace is the closest gateway to this iconic wildlife reserve, providing convenient access into the park, along with great service, luxurious comfort and excellent food.

When planning your visit, one of the first things to figure out is how to get to us efficiently and conveniently. Whether you prefer to fly, drive, or arrange private transfers, here’s a complete guide to help you plan your journey.

Flying to Bushveld Terrace

Flying is the quickest and most convenient way to reach Bushveld Terrace, especially for international travellers landing at South Africa’s major airports. The primary international entry point is Cape Town International Airport. The quickest option is to take a direct flight to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS).

Guests have two options when arriving in Hoedspruit; hire a car or arrange for a road transfer to Bushveld Terrace in Phalaborwa.

Car rental tips

Renting a car is a great option for guests who want to explore the Kruger National Park at their own pace. Self-driving is especially beneficial for those staying with us, as we are located right at the Phalaborwa Gate entrance to the park. This allows you to easily be among the first in line to enter.

With a day pass, you can enter the park as many times as you like throughout the day. You have the flexibility to either enjoy a full day drive or split it into two shorter drives, returning to the hotel for meals and rest during the heat of the day. This way, you can maximize your time in the park!

  • Vehicle choice – A standard sedan is suitable for paved roads, but a 4×4 or SUV is recommended for comfort and flexibility on Kruger’s gravel roads.
  • Fuel stops – Ensure you refuel before entering the Park, as fuel stations are limited to rest camps inside the park.
  • Speed limits – Stick to national speed limits (120 km/h on highways, 40-50 km/h inside Kruger) to ensure safety.
  • Kruger Park map book – Invest in a map book of the Kruger National Park, for sale in our curio shop.

Transfers and shuttles

If you prefer a hassle-free journey, we can assist with road transfers to and from Hoedspruit Airport to our hotel in Phalaborwa. Road transfers take about one hour in a luxurious, air-conditioned vehicle.

Please let us know when booking your stay and we’ll provide a quote for the road transfer.

No matter how you choose to travel, arriving at Bushveld Terrace Hotel ensures you’re perfectly positioned at Kruger’s doorstep for an unforgettable safari experience. Book your stay today and start your adventure!
